More than a hundred years ago a series of murders committed by a family who called themselves the Benders took place in Kansas. The father, mother, son and daughter took in weary travelers and offered a warm bed to sleep in for the night, but usually during dinner brought more than a hot meal to the unsuspecting guests and later robbed them of their goods and hurriedly buried the bodies. The Benders were never punished for their crimes, and in modern day Kansas when an ex-police detective turned missing persons investigator is sent to determine the identity of a certain inn keeper outside sleepy Coffeyville he finds himself wondering if history is about to repeat itself in a very personal way, more meaningful to him than he could ever have imagined.

Definitely not my favorite. Wasn't quite the page turner I had hoped it to be after reading Green Lake by the same author which was a really good one. Kept putting me into snooze mode, and found it hard to stay interested.Product details

IT WAS INTERESTING. BUT I LIKED IT!
Love this book. Ms Epperson's writing style is very easy to follow and her story line grabs you right away. I highly recommend it.
This book had Norman Bates feel minus the shower but a knife did make an appearance. It was a mixed up family plot.
A private detective takes on a job looking for a missing person, and at the same time he is searching for something personal. The plot is both interesting and twisted as Eppersons novels usually are.
Excellent story and characters. You race to keep up and figure out who is who, and what is what. Very entertaining and worth the read.
Another book purchased because I was enthralled with one SK Epperson book I read. This wasn't as good, but it was ok and I read it all the way through.
I am pretty hooked on the Epperson stories. The mystery is unique, it unravels throughout and does not show its face until the end-with much to do in between. Recommend to all.
